Position Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Health Safety and Environment, the Regional HSE Manager will lead the implementation and maintenance of the CHEP Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System for their respective region and/or division.  The manager shall drive cultural transformation through the development of proactive relationships throughout the organization and result in the development of a world class Zero Harm environment.  Responsibilities include execution of strategies to ensure ongoing compliance to OSHA, environmental, DOT and other regulatory requirements.  Broader responsibilities include the deployment of best practices and fostering a culture committed to continuous improvement.  The manager will maintain multi-plant responsibilities in several states and the selected candidate must be willing to travel.

 

Scope: (90 locations across the US, clustered in the Northeast)

Preferred Locations:  Chicago, NY, Michigan, Major Northeastern City

Travel Requirements: 70%

 

Major/Key Accountabilities

Develop and institutionalize systems to ensure ongoing compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental, and other relevant national and local regulatory requirements.

Work with local sites to develop safety management systems to be in compliance with CHEP Global Audit Process (GAP) standards.  Lead the internal compliance audit and GAP assessment process across service centres. Establish timeline and action closure process and drive year on year continuous improvement.

Drive leading indicator safety programs such as Near Miss to establish a proactive approach to Zero Harm performance.

Facilitate injury management programs and instruct incident investigations to establish true root causes and implement proactive preventive actions. 

Conduct and instruct organizational and workplace risk and job safety assessments.

Support Sustainability and Environmental Compliance programs.  Implement Environmental management plans and spill protection measures.

Support the accurate and timely reporting of monthly scorecard metrics and work with sites to ensure data is entered through iCARE.

Drive a culture of continuous improvement and engage in global Best Practice exchange.

Execute loss control and risk management strategies to achieve business objectives & minimize hazard risk exposures.

Develop a team that will support the Zero Harm program throughout the business.

Essential Qualifications:

BS or BA degree

 

Desirable Qualifications:

BS degree  in Health, Safety and Environmental Management

Safety Certification (i.e. CSP, ASP, OHST, CET, COSS)

 

Experience

Minimum five years supervisory (people management) experience

Minimum of five years environmental, health, and/or safety related experience in a manufacturing or operations environment

 

Skills and Knowledge

Ability to effectively collaborate and work with cross functional  teams in a matrix environment.

Strong analytical and problem solving capability.

Knowledgeable in occupational health and safety regulations

Familiar with environmental compliance and best management practices

Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement

 

Languages Essential: English; Desirable: Spanish
