Position Purpose

A critical leadership position in a strategic growth area for CHEP, the Director, Supply Chain Solutions will be responsible for creating and delivering value for customers through sales, value delivery, and market strategy execution for CHEP’s growing portfolio of consultative, value added supply chain solutions (aka professional services).

 

The Customer Supply Chain Solutions team will:

  • Clarify customer needs and identify opportunities for value creation

  • Develop proposals to deliver existing solutions to customers with clearly defined customer value and ROI

  • Deliver value to our customer by successfully executing supply chain solution engagements

  • Design new supply chain solutions to fulfil currently unmet customer needs

  • Number of Locations: All US and Canada locations

 

Major/Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with CHEP pallet sales to manage requests for value-added process improvement initiatives for large accounts to support the core business

  • Sell and deliver billable supply chain consulting services to clients

    • Work with the business development manager to engage with potential customers and land engagements

    • Manage delivery consultants in the proper scoping, execution, and preparation of engagement deliverables

  • Direct the business operations manager to develop consulting operations processes to support client engagements

    • Sales pipeline management processes and supporting applications

    • Delivery consultant time management and supporting applications

    • Knowledge sharing and training processes

  • Develop solutions strategy to enable long-term growth of consultative supply chain solutions

    • Drive innovative solutions that enable Customer Solutions team to continuously add value to the business and adapt to changing needs. 

    • Market assessments to determine where to focus value added sales efforts

    • Service offering roadmap to expand billable service offerings

  • Develop and support the execution of external and internal marketing of CHEP solutions

    • Development of case studies for publication

    • Speaking at industry conferences and internal CHEP meetings

  • Lead and develop the supply chain solutions team

    • Develop clear performance objectives and provide ongoing assessments

    • Coach and mentor team members to further develop and improve required skills

    • Enable a culture of learning and curiosity

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or Related field

  • Well-developed oral, written, and graphical communication skills, including development & presentation of formal briefings, proposals, and supporting artefacts

  • People Management or supervisory experience

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • MBA or Master’s degree in Engineering

  • PMP certification

  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Master Black Belt Certification

 

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years CPG manufacturing or Retail supply chain experience (manufacturer, retailer, or service provider)

  • Minimum 5 years client-facing consulting experience

  • Minimum 7 years process improvement experience in a manufacturing or retail environment

  • People Management or supervisory experience required

  • Experience selling, scoping, and pricing consulting engagements required. Account management & new business development in solution offering environments in a consultancy environment, including performance based contracting.

  • Experience developing new consulting services and offerings desired with consulting firm internal operations desired

  • Experience sizing and assessing markets for new valued added services desired

 

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to develop and communicate a strategic vision for the direction of the team

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills to be provided to a team working in various locations across the U.S. and Canada

  • Clear understanding of the consulting business model including profitability drivers, metrics, processes, and key success factors

  • Deep understanding of CPG end-to-end supply chain costs and drivers (from manufacturers to retailers) as it relates to all related functional areas:

    • Planning/Forecasting

    • Manufacturing

    • Supply Chain

    • Distribution

    • Logistics

    • Sales

    • Merchandising

    • Store Operations

  • Proven commercial skills including the ability to build strong relationships with customers, creating trust and confidence at multiple levels of the organization in order to uncover supply chain needs

  • Ability to develop compelling value-based proposals for supply chain consulting engagements to meet customer needs

  • Understanding of consulting pricing models and strong negotiation skills

  • Ability to scope consulting work for supply chain related projects, accurately estimating workload and balancing risk in the development of Statements of Work

  • Superb project management skills as applied to consulting engagements

  • Expertise in the development of high quality consulting deliverables and understanding of Minto-based structured problem solving

  • Ability to perform market assessments and develop a roadmap for the growth of supply chain consultative service offerings
